27th July

Arrival to the Youth Hostel and the beginning of IYM

After pleasantly short trip which took me 5 hours, I made my way to Max    Mannheimer’s house (the location of IYM) alongside 8 people from my home town. We were warmly welcomed by this year’s project manager and a couple of teamers who gave us our first IYM souvenirs – reusable plastic cups, bracelets to mark participants’ age and ID cards.

After wondering through the Youth Hostel halls for a while, I finally entered my room. There was a huge doubt in how I'll get along with my roommates, but after the first conversation with them, I instantly loved all of them. Despite the cultural differences, nationality and the fact that we’ve just met each other, my brand new roommates and I could acknowledge that mosquitoes  are annoying creatures. Thus, we all agreed on putting on as little light as possible during the evening to prevent their visits which was the starting point of good cooperation we had for the rest of the camp.

After spending half of the day running around the halls, exploring the neighbourhood and attempting to speak to as many people as possible, it was the time for Grand Opening. Primarily, members of the IYM team presented themselves to us by speaking about personal info, university they go to and even their ability to ‘give a good advice in form of drake’s lyrics'. Later on, participants played a game which helped discover each other's general info, hidden talents or just random facts. All those little encounters that evening helped us scratch the surface of the people we are going to be spending next two weeks with attending workshops, eating,  being exhausted, crying, laughing and even painting walls of an old factory without us even realizing how close some of them might become to us.
